Hannah had been recruited into my art long before JoaFruit existed. For The Sash Unwinding, we suspended a camera above my bed and she started filming by remote control once I had fallen asleep. She visited Japan for 3 weeks in 2003, just after I had spent almost all my money on my dream titanium Mac. We had only a bed for the first night and no plans beyond that. Japan promptly provided us a truck driver who carried us from Tokyo to Osaka in 6 hours, bought us curry lunch and delivered us directly to our hotel. When Hannah flew home, I wrote, “Hannah is gone. There is a sweet and innocent void in my life now.” Then I cried over the steering wheel in a Seven Eleven car park while apparently entertaining the women in the neighbouring car. In 2004 I received 3 weeks’ notice that my grandparents were coming to Japan. “They’re bringing my sister with them... Oh thankgod!” Hannah supervised their journey from Osaka, shared my futon while they occupied my bed, met Kenken and jammed with Kenji at Gotcha.
